AY 2026/2027 Semester 1
Overview
This undergraduate course develops big-picture literacy in the language and ideas that connect finance, accounting, economics, data science, and statistics: understanding key terms and financial statements; how financial markets work and why different instruments exist; how financial risks are classified, measured, interpreted, and managed; how risk–return trade-offs shape investing decisions; and how AI (including generative AI) is transforming financial data analytics and fintech—along with the model, governance, and ethical risks that come with AI-enabled financial applications.
Students will gain a broad understanding of real-world financial markets, risks, and investments. They will learn to think in basic financial terms and develop an understanding of emerging tools, including AI, for financial applications.
This course is also part of the FASS 2.0 Banking and Finance Track (Data Analytics/Big Data/Statistics Hard Skills Clusters).
This course will serve as a UE for all NUS students, while FASS/FoS/CHS students have the priority to sign up at Round 1.
