RMI Organizes a Customized Training Program on Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

In October 2018, RMI conducted a customized Training Program on Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence (AI), for the first time, for a group of Chinese delegates. Led by Guangzhou-based Huangpu Blockchain Training Centre, 14 participants consisting of senior managers, CEOs, and investors from China attended the course over three days. The morning session on day one featured an introduction to blockchain and its applications, blockchain testnets such as Smart Harmony and Ethereum, the next generation internet, and the possible long-term changes of the blockchain and digital revolution. The afternoon section focused on development of Singapore’s regulation of the financial technology industry and the role played by the government in technological innovation.

RMI’s MFE Program Promotes Its Market Presence among Other Initiatives

On 1 December 2018, the NUS Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MFE) Program hosted a program briefing session in Shanghai at the Howard Johnson Caida Plaza Hotel. RMI’s Acting Director and MFE Program Director Prof. Sun Yeneng and the Senior Associate Director Ms. Ivy Wang gave the attendees information on the MFE program, the curriculum, faculty, admission requirements, the application process, as well as career development. The information session was also attended by MFE alumni currently working with firms such as China International Capital Corporation (CICC), UBS, Dongzheng Futures, and GF Securities. The alumni also shared their learning and employment experience. In Singapore, on 25 January 2019, RMI also hosted an on-campus program briefing session for its August 2019 admissions for the NUS MFE Program. The program briefing, attended by more than 30 participants, started with a presentation on the program’s curriculum, faculty, students’ profile, and job placement, among others. The briefing was followed by a 30 min Q & A session.

Tarun Tandon is the Founder/Chief Executive Officer of FLS Capital Pte. Ltd. FLS Capital is a Singapore-based boutique consultancy firm specializing in deal sourcing/origination for capital introduction and M&A deals with sector focus on margin retail FX/CFD brokers, payment/remittance companies as well as for start-ups/early-stage FinTech and crypto/blockchain companies. Prior to starting his own consultancy firm, Tarun was the Asia Head of FX and OTC Energy at MF Global Singapore. He was instrumental for the exponential growth in business at MF Global Singapore by incorporating electronic trading capabilities, sound risk management, product innovation and organic & inorganic growth strategies. He has over 25 years of experience in FX, Precious Metals and the Futures industry, having worked in global banks and brokerages. What motivated you to pursue a Master’s Degree in Financial Engineering? And why did you choose RMI’s MFE program? Having done my MBA in Finance, I felt that this knowledge was not enough. I wanted to have a deeper insight into complex financial products. RMI MFE program was well structured and flexible, allowing me to attend the course whilst doing my full time job.

Lu Meng-Jou joined RMI on 3 December 2018 as a Research Fellow. Meng-Jou Lu acquired her doctoral degree from the Institute of Finance in 2017 from Taiwan’s National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). She has been a Research Assistant at Ladislaus von Bortkiewicz Chair of Statistics, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from 2015 to 2016. Additionally, she has experience working on interdisciplinary research at APEC Research Center for Typhoon and Society at Taiwan Typhoon and Flood Research Institute (TTFRI) since she graduated from NCTU. She is interested in applying quantitative model to financial data especially in market and credit risk. And she also has experience implementing the market and credit risk models by using techniques such as copulae, EGARCH, Nelson-Siegel and CPV model on empirical data.
