On 1 December 2018, the NUS Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MFE) Program hosted a program briefing session in Shanghai at the Howard Johnson Caida Plaza Hotel. RMI’s Acting Director and MFE Program Director Prof. Sun Yeneng and the Senior Associate Director Ms. Ivy Wang gave the attendees information on the MFE program, the curriculum, faculty, admission requirements, the application process, as well as career development. The information session was also attended by MFE alumni currently working with firms such as China International Capital Corporation (CICC), UBS, Dongzheng Futures, and GF Securities. The alumni also shared their learning and employment experience. In Singapore, on 25 January 2019, RMI also hosted an on-campus program briefing session for its August 2019 admissions for the NUS MFE Program. The program briefing, attended by more than 30 participants, started with a presentation on the program’s curriculum, faculty, students’ profile, and job placement, among others. The briefing was followed by a 30 min Q & A session. Since the launch of the offical WeChat Account for the NUS MFE Program in December 2018, this was the first time RMI promoted the Shanghai/Singapore talks via WeChat, in addition to regular email blasts. Over the past few months, the NUS MFE program has also witnessed some changes. Among others, two new elective modules have been included in its comprehensive curriculum. They are Machine Learning and Fintech, and Commodities: Fundamentals and Modelling. The new additions are in response to the growing market demand in these sectors and the aim is to help students who chose to enrol in them to obtain first-hand working knowledge in the related fields. The Program has also partnered with other NUS departments to offer another two cross-faculty modules: Microeconomics, offered by Department of Economics, and Venture Funding, offered by Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management. Lastly, starting with the 2019 admission exercise, for both the MFE and DDP programs, the compulsory requirement of the GRE/GMAT score is now officially waived. The GRE/GMAT score will now be an optional admission criterion and applicants are welcome to submit the score to strengthen their credentials. The NUS MFE program, launched in 1999 and administered by RMI, offers a holistic curriculum that covers finance, mathematics, and computing with a practical orientation to solve real business problems. The admission for 2019 intake is open till 15 March. More information can be found at: https://rmi.nus.edu.sg/mfe-program/admission/.
