Industry Talk for MFE Students

12 October 2018 On 12 October 2018 Mr. Rodrigo Echeverri, the Head of Research at Nobel Resources in Singapore gave a talk on “How to Enter the World of Commodities” for RMI's Master of Science in Financial Engineering (MFE) students. The talk gave the students and overview of essential concepts in the field; commodities as an asset class including energy, metals, agriculture, etc., how commodities are traded, approaches to market classes in commodities, how to start a career in commodities, and learning more about commodities. Since 2004, Mr. Echeverri has held sales and analysis roles in South America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. He has also worked for two of the largest coal producers in the world: Cerrejón (Colombia) and Adaro Energy (Indonesia), as well as energy think-tank, King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Saudi Arabia. This talk is a part of the comprehensive career developments services offered by RMI to its MFE students.

Training Program on Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

15 to 17 October 2018 RMI collaborated with Guangzhou Huangpu Blockchain Training Centre for the first time to conduct a customized training workshop on blockchain and AI. The workshop was attended by senior managers, CEOs, and investors from China. The topics covered under this training program included technology of blockchain and cryptocurrency, disruptive innovation of blockchain, risk management, big data and AI, Singapore's experiences and regulations, and application and case study of blockchain. The program received very positive feedback and participants found the course helpful. They opined that the course gave them a deeper understanding of the technology behind blockchain, its potential applications, and also potential regulatory issues.

26 October 2018 On 26 October 2018, RMI hosted a workshop for its MFE students titled “Key Skills for Risk Management Professionals.” The aim of this workshop was to equip students with the skills to perform well at job interviews, with a focus on jobs in banking and finance industry. It prepared students for the different formats of interviews and frequently asked interview questions. The workshop consisted of two practice sessions and a live demonstration of an interview. Alvin Mak, CEO of Alpha Investment Partners, was also invited to share his thoughts from an employer's perspective The workshop was conducted by Eric Sim, formely a Managing Director of UBS. RMI encourages a holistic approach to education and offers a plethora of career-related services to its MFE students.
